Looking Back - Part V - Valentine's Day 2008

Image
I got into the groove after two successful runs of my V-Day series. However, the novelty was starting to wear off. Not that I didn't enjoy making these, I just got bored of the idea. This was to be the last year I go "all out" on Valentine's Day. Of course, I'm wishy-washy. I may catch the bug again and create some more some day, who knows? By the way, you may notice that these pieces have a copyright date of 2007. That's because these were so detailed that I started on them in September of 2007 to be released in February of 2008. Enjoy: I got the idea for this one when I happened upon a poster on the wall somewhere in San Francisco. I thought it would be a good idea if I parodied one of the most iconic images in american popular culture. This is the result. While I didn't pull off the painted look of the original, I like the end result. But I admit I took some creative liberties on my chest. I wish I had a six-pack like that! Ah, now we come to my favori

Looking Back - Part IV - Valentine's Day 2007

My Valentine's Day cards were so popular in 2006, I decided to Do another round the following year. It was an exciting time for me. Ideas sprang up out of nowhere and I was bursting with creativity. It was around this time that I also came up with the concept for the "today I feel" comics. So without further ado, here is round two of the Valentine's Day series: I thought I'd do something dramatic for the series. Also, I was experimenting with Photoshop and wanted to give painting a try. This piece is a bit amateurish but I think I achieved what I set out to do. I love designs that are mostly black and white with splashes of color. I think the theme here, was that I was in a world of turmoil. The outside world was available to me, but I didn't want to venture into it. Instead, choosing to wallow in my sadness. Not exactly cheerful but it certainly reflected my mood at the time. This s a bit of a takeoff of the "Walk the Line" Poster by Shepard Fairey.

Looking Back - Part III - Valentine's Day

In 2006, I decided to make a nice gesture and send out Valentine's Day cards to my fellow lady coworkers. I really don't know why I decided to do it, I suppose I just caught the art bug. My coworkers seemed to really like them, though. I really had fun making these, so I decided to do it again the following year. For now, here is the complete set of 12 cards I designed: Any fan of The Beatles would recognize where I got the inspiration for this piece. This went through many drafts before I even came up with The Beatles design, however. Some of may favorite images came to be from a last minute idea. I think I wrote something really cheesy on the back of this one. Something like, "This Valentine's Day, Make the Commitment." Yeah, I'm a dork. Anyway, I was still finding my footing with computer graphic design. I think this one came out pretty good considering how unskilled I was at the time. I cringe when I see this one now. My line work needed well, "work&q

I'd like to share some posters I made for my office get-togethers. These were done pretty quickly, and looking at these now, I kinda cringe at how amateur some of it was. But I did it, so they are what they are. Enjoy: I like the design of this one. Especially because I came up with it over a weekend and I started on Saturday having no clue what the design would be. Then all of a sudden, it came to me. I got really excited as i sketched out a draft. The final came out better than I thought it would. I gave myself a big pat on the back after this one. This is another rush job. The theme was music and I had a pretty cool idea for what I wanted to do. However, the design I wanted to make would take longer than the time I had to do it in, so I scrapped it for the time being. I later used that idea for a valentine's day card. You'll see that one later. For this poster, I decided on a simple piece showcasing two of my favorite artists. I don;t do too much true-to-life pieces, but

Seeing as how it's been nearly six months since I've drawn anything (for reasons I won't go into right now), I think it's time I get my act together and start creating again. But before I do, I thought I'd go through the archives and post some pictures I drew for my friends a while back. I think it's about time I share this stuff with all of you. Starting off: "Bushido" I did this one for my best friend, Brian. It was his 29th birthday present I believe. He's a martial artist and is currently studying Kendo. I was really proud of this piece, and he loved it as much, if not more than I did. I still have to make more like this. I like the faux-Japanese style I used here. "Golden Gate" If I recall correctly, I did this at the request of a co-worker. She asked if I would make a picture of the Golden-Gate Bridge for her friend back east. This is what I came up with and I made an 11x17" print. I charged 30 whole bucks for it! "Koy&quo
